Facelift

As we get older, sun exposure, weight fluctuation, and the natural aging process can cause our skin to loosen and sag while we develop wrinkles or jowls. The muscles on the neck may slacken, too, making us look years older than we truly are. A facelift is a surgical procedure designed to correct the aesthetics of your face and make cosmetic improvements to the skin around your jaw line, cheeks, and nasiofold areas. This surgical procedure reduces the appearance of wrinkles on your face and neck and rejuvenates the skin, making you look years younger. For those seeking to "turn back the clock," world-class facelift surgery is available at the Center for Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery.

The first step in facelift surgery involves making incisions at the temples and along the hairline. Then, the skin is lifted and separated from the muscle. Your physician then tightens or removes excess skin, and re-sculpts the muscle tissue. To complete the facelift, the remaining skin is then smoothed, tightened, and secured with sutures. At this point the physician dresses the area with soft bandages.

A facelift takes one to three hours, depending on the condition of your skin and the results you would like to achieve. During recovery you may experience some common side effects such as swelling, bruising, and numbness. Any minor discomfort is usually remedied with an over-the-counter or prescription pain medication.

It's natural to have questions. Dr. Loessin and Dr. DeMercurio and their professional staff members can answer any questions you have. Schedule a complimentary consultation by completing the form to your right to discuss your options.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Makeup counters and drugstores feature countless creams and gels to counteract droopy, puffy eyes and eyelids. But at our Daytona Beach and Orlando-area practice, our physicians offer eyelid surgery (also called blepharoplasty) as a longer-lasting solution to restore the skin around your eyes and give you a fresher appearance. In some cases, eyelid surgery even improves the patient's field of vision that was impaired by saggy eyelids.

When performing eyelid surgery, your physician will make an incision along the eyelid and trim away excess fat, muscle tissue, and skin. He then lifts the remaining skin and, depending on the case, may also reposition the muscle. The incisions are closed with sutures, and the patient recovers for a few days. During the recovery, eyelids may look swollen, bruised, or red; vision may be blurred; and the patient may tear up or experience sensitivity to light. These side effects usually subside in 10 days or less.

Rhinoplasty

Many or our patients are interested in changing the size or shape of their nose, often for cosmetic reasons. Rhinoplasty can make a nose larger or smaller and can adjust the shape of the bridge, tip, or nostrils. Rhinoplasty can also correct crookedness, injuries, and breathing abnormalities due to problems with the internal structures of the nose. If you are having problems breathing or you feel uncomfortable with the appearance of your nose, undergoing rhinoplasty can increase your confidence and improve the balance and proportions of your face.

When performing a rhinoplasty procedure, your physician makes an incision along the rim of the nostrils. If decreasing the size of the nose, he carefully fractures and removes some of the bone. If smoothing a bump, he scrapes away excess cartilage. Rhinoplasty lasts one to two hours, depending on the particular case, and is performed under either general or local anesthesia. Recovery takes about a month, after which the patient can admire the results for the rest of his or her life. We offer rhinoplasty consultations in Daytona Beach, near Orlando, on an ongoing basis.

Browlift / Forehead Lift

The forehead and brow line are vulnerable to wrinkles, lines, and creases that can make a face look tired, sad, or angry. Intensified by sun exposure, heredity, and weight fluctuation, these expression lines can add years to your face. A browlift, also called a forehead lift, is a subtle way to smooth those creases and wrinkles around your forehead, remove loose excess skin, and lift your eyebrow line. Sometimes coupled with a facelift or rhinoplasty, a browlift is typically a minimally invasive procedure involving a short recovery period, little (if any) discomfort, and only minor scarring. Our surgeons offer two types of browlift surgery: traditional and endoscopic. Usually younger patients who do not require extensive lifting and trimming opt for the endoscopic surgery.

During traditional browlift surgery, your physician makes an incision along the hairline and removes excess skin and muscle tissue from between and around the brows. He tightens the muscle and pulls the skin taut, smoothing wrinkles and creases while lifting the brow line. The doctor then closes the incision and applies sutures to the area.

Endoscopic Browlift

An endoscopic browlift employs a thin probe called an endoscope, which has a small camera and light attached to one end. Through small incisions, the doctor inserts the endoscope under the skin and uses it to remove excess muscle tissue from around the eyebrows and forehead, lift the skin, and smooth wrinkles and creases. He then uses sutures to close the incisions, and the brow line heals in its new position. Recovery is short and relatively pain-free, since an endoscopic procedure is less invasive than a traditional browlift.
